UNDP Indonesia’s work on climate finance has been working closely with the Government of Indonesia (GoI), c.q. Ministry of Finance (MoF), through the Center for Climate Finance and Multilateral Policy, Fiscal Policy Agency, over the past years. UNDP’s support on climate finance programmes aims to integrate climate change in public finance management, mainstreaming gender-lens onto the climate change budgeting, as well as support in scaling up innovative climate finance mechanisms to optimize public finance and mobilizing private finance to support GoI in achieving the 2030’s agenda. The partnership, for example, resulted in the introduction of climate budget tagging, issuance of the world’s first sovereign Green Sukuk, gender responsive climate budgeting, carbon pricing and carbon tax, etc.

The main counterparts of the Climate Finance project are the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Ministry of Home Affairs. The project has also collaborated with other key stakeholders such as, Local Governments, Parliaments, CSOs/NGOs, development partners, universities, and associations.

Climate Finance’s work is a part of regional programme, namely the Climate Finance Network (CFN), which covers several thematic areas below:

“Climate Finance is equally important for climate change mitigation and adaptation, as the financial resources are needed to significantly reduce emissions and adapt to the adverse effects of climate change.”
